External power supplies
Page under construction...
Whether you are installing a garden office, a playroom for the children, a hot tub or running power to your garage all these types of installation are notifiable to your local authority building control. To ensure that the final installation is safe and will not cause a fire or electrocute someone you need to be sure that it is has been installed in accordance with the requirements of the 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations - BS 7671 (2008).
There are many things to consider when designing the installation:
- How far is it from the Service Head (Consumer Unit)..why? If it's too far or the cable is too small the voltage drop will effect your new garden office IT installation. This will be difficult/expensive to rectify post project.
- Is the installation's sub main suitably protected? Has it been laid correctly and of the right type of cable?
- In the event of a fault occurring is the disconnection time correct?.
- Is the outbuilding RCD protected?
- In the event of a fault condition arising is my earthing adequate?
- Has the installation been erected to withstand the effects of weather, water ingress or inadvertant damage?
- Is your earth fault loop impedance within limits
These are a few examples of what needs to be considered when designing a new installation if you can't answer these questions and wish to seek advice please ring us for a quotation. |
